Air Conditioning Re-Gas: Is your car Loosing its Cool?

Is your car's air conditioning blowing warm air? Does it struggle to clear your windscreen on misty mornings? Most manufacturers recommend an air con re-gas (recharge) every 2 years to keep your system running efficiently and your cabin comfortable.

Why does my car need a re-gas?

Air conditioning systems naturally lose about 10% of their refrigerant gas every year. When the gas levels drop, your system has to work harder, which:

  • Increases fuel consumption as the engine works overtime.

  • Reduces cooling power, leaving you hot and bothered in the summer.

  • Can cause parts to fail because the refrigerant also carries vital oil that lubricates the system’s seals.

Our Professional Re-Gas Process

We don't just "top up" your gas; we perform a full system refresh to ensure everything is leak-free and functional:

  1. System Diagnostics: We check the current vent temperature and system pressure.

  2. Recovery & Vacuum: We remove any remaining old gas and moisture from the system.

  3. Leak Test: We perform a vacuum test to ensure there are no cracks or holes in your pipes.

  4. Re-Charge: We refill the system with the precise amount of refrigerant and fresh lubricant.

  5. Final Performance Test: We verify that your air con is now chilling at its optimum temperature.

Gas Types & Pricing

Depending on the age of your vehicle, you will require one of two types of refrigerant. We can quickly identify which one you need upon arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a re-gas take?

The process typically takes between 45 to 60 minutes. You are welcome to wait in our reception area while we work.

What if my air con still isn't cold?

If a re-gas doesn't fix the issue, there may be a mechanical fault (like a broken compressor). Our technicians will diagnose the problem and provide a transparent quote for any necessary repairs.

Why does my air con smell "musty"?

This is often caused by bacteria buildup on the evaporator. We recommend adding an Anti-Bacterial Debug Treatment to your service for just £20 to kill germs and refresh your cabin air.

Manufacturers recommend that your vehicle’s air conditioning should be recharged with gas and lubricant every 2 years to keep it running effectively and efficiently.  This service isn’t usually part of your annual vehicle service so if your vehicle is over 2 years old then a recharge is probably due.
